Our Planning Process
The R.U.D.D.E.R. Method is a six-step financial planning process built around your goals, not a generic template. It produces a plan you understand and a relationship built on ongoing refinement as your life changes.
The R.U.D.D.E.R. Method is Chesapeake Financial Planners' proprietary six-step financial planning process: Review and Recognize your current situation, Uncover and Understand what truly matters to you, Design and Develop a coordinated strategy, Discuss and Decide on the plan with full clarity, Execute and Empower through implementation, and Reassess and Refine as your life evolves. It is a repeatable framework that ensures every financial decision connects back to your specific goals.

How Does a Financial Plan Actually Get Built? Every article explaining the R.U.D.D.E.R. Method and how Chesapeake Financial Planners approaches financial planning.
The R stands for Review and Recognize, meaning we start by taking a full inventory of where you are: income, assets, debts, insurance, taxes, and existing accounts. Recognizing your starting point clearly is the foundation of every good financial plan.
Uncover and Understand is about the conversation behind the numbers: what you value, what worries you, what your definition of a successful financial life looks like, and what constraints matter to you. A plan built on deep understanding of your goals produces recommendations you will actually follow.
Design and Develop followed by Discuss and Decide is where the actual plan is built and presented. We model strategies, compare scenarios, and identify the highest-leverage decisions. Discuss and Decide means we walk through every recommendation until you understand it well enough to own the decision.
Execute and Empower means implementing the plan with the specific steps, accounts, and actions required. It also means ensuring you understand what was done and why, so you are not dependent on us for every small decision going forward.
Reassess and Refine is the ongoing step that makes R.U.D.D.E.R. a living process rather than a one-time document. Life changes: jobs change, families grow, laws shift, markets move. We revisit the plan regularly to ensure it reflects your current situation and goals.
